In 1974, Roger Drake purchased his first supermarket; a store named Jack & Jill’s, which employed only four staff.  Today, Drakes Supermarkets is the largest independent grocery retailer in Australia. With over 60 supermarkets across South Australia and Queensland, the company now has an annual turnover in excess of $1 billion and employs over 6,000 staff nationally. 

Drakes Supermarkets, invite you into their inner sanctum to see the workings of their $125 million, state of the art, distribution centre in Edinburgh North. It is the most advanced independent distribution centre in the state, with world first technology.

As part of the tour, you will hear from 1st and 2nd generation family members Roger and John-Paul Drake who will share the company’s strengths in operating on the principles of a family business, supporting local manufacturers and suppliers; and their decision to finally go it alone to gain control over its positioning and marketing.
